Course Description
This 5 day Level 3 FREC® First Response Emergency Care course arms learners with the knowledge and confidence to deal with a range of pre-hospital care emergencies, including: managing a casualty’s airway, catastrophic bleeding and dealing with traumatic injuries.
This qualification exceeds the HSE’s standard requirements for those acting as a workplace first aider. It is suitable for working environments where a higher level of first aid training is required. This could include construction, manufacturing, laboratories, or environments that are remote or involve high-risk activities.
The qualification is approved by Qualsafe Awards and is endorsed by The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh – Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care (FPHC). The Level 3 Certificate meets the PHEM Skills Framework.
Course Content
- Responding to life-threatening medical conditions
- Adult, Child and Infant Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
- Emergency oxygen administration, including use of a Bag Valve Mask (BVM)
- Internal and external bleeding
- Airway management including OPA, NPA and suction
- Traumatic injuries and catastrophic bleeding
- Hypovolemic shock and coagulopathy
- Poisoning and intoxicating substances
- Assessment and treatment of burns and scalds
- Circulatory and respiratory systems
- Understanding The 10 Second Triage, GCS & ROSC
- Neck, spine and pelvic immobilisation
- Helmet removal
- Environmental exposure
- Patient assessments
- Incident reporting

Availability
- On-site course (training for groups at a time and venue of your choice)

Delivery Method
- Face to face (5 days in the classroom)

Assessments
- Practical assessments/skills tests will be observed by the Trainer throughout the course.
- Throughout the course, there are three multiple-choice question papers and one invigilated exam.
Pre-requisites
- Learners must be at least 17 years of age on the first day of training.
- To benefit from the training, we advise that Learners have a minimum of Level 2 in literacy or equivalent and a basic understanding of first aid.
- If you believe changes may be needed to the course or its assessment due to a disability, please inform us as soon as possible, or at least two weeks before the start date. In most cases, this will allow us enough time to assess your requirements and implement any adjustments.
Certification
Upon successful completion of this course, the Learner will receive an Ofqual-regulated Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) eCertificate.
