Course Description

This course enables learners to administer oxygen safely and effectively to casualties with breathing difficulties. Learners will be shown how and when to administer oxygen to a casualty, as well as the safety concerns associated with carrying, storing, and administering.

Please read our section on Martyn’s Law, which received Royal Assent on April 3rd 2025.

This course is Ideal for first aiders working in remote areas, where the emergency services may take longer to arrive, or where the risk of fume inhalation is present.

Course Content

  • Understand the benefits of oxygen therapy.
  • Identify the indications for using oxygen.
  • Understand contradictions prohibiting the use of oxygen.
  • Understand the risks associated with using compressed gas.
  • Administer oxygen at the required flow rate using a non-rebreather mask, along with a bag, valve, and mask.
  • Safe handling and storage of oxygen.

Assessments

  • Practical assessments are observed and recorded by the Trainer throughout the course.

Pre-requisites

  • Learners must be able to perform practical tasks at floor level.
  • We recommend that Learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy and numeracy, or equivalent. However, we acknowledge and embrace Viva-Voce (Verbal Assessments) for learners who may require additional support during assessment.
  • If you believe changes may be needed to the course or its assessment due to a disability, please inform us as soon as possible, or at least two weeks before the start date. In most cases, this will provide us with sufficient time to assess your requirements and implement any necessary adjustments.

Certification

Upon successful completion of this course, learners will receive an Award in Oxygen Therapy Administration.
