Module 3 Custody First Aid
On successful completion of this module, learners will be able to:
- Manage a first aid scene
- Assess a casualty
- Perform adult basic life support (including adult, child and infant)
- Demonstrate safe use of an Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
- Manage a choking casualty (including child or infant)
- Place a casualty in the recovery position
- Report casualty information
- Manage a casualty with shock
- Manage a casualty with chest pain
- Manage a casualty who has fainted
- Manage a casualty who is bleeding
- Manage a casualty with spinal injury
- Manage a casualty who is convulsing
- Manage the control of infection
This module is designed for staff working within custody areas, such as custody sergeants, gaolers and detention officers and other relevant personnel determined by the force, that are responsible for the care of detainees. The learning addresses a range of medical situations that personnel working in a custody environment are more likely to encounter. This module supplements Module 2.
Due to the nature of this course and the practical work involved, this course is delivered in the classroom only.
