Don't practice until you get it right. Practice until you can't get it wrong

09/02/2026by David Landrum

There is a saying in the military, “Don’t practice until you get it right. Practice until you can’t get it wrong”

Knowing what to do is not the same as being able to do it. Most first aid courses give learners the knowledge. They can recite what to do, tick the boxes, and pass the assessments, but when faced with a real emergency, they freeze! Naturally, this is to be expected. However, with the proper training delivered in a way people remember, using realistic scenarios, the pressure, the noise, and all the stresses of real life, we can at least prepare our learners more effectively for the day it happens for real. Confidence under pressure comes from practice. We are not saying this is the only way to teach, but it is certainly one that people remember.

Unfortunately, there are too many training companies that deliver a course; here is your certificate, box ticked, goodbye! At AML, we have been delivering high-standard first aid, pre-hospital care, safety and security training at various levels since 1997 across the UK and Ireland, training many thousands of people across military, police, prison staff, security, retail, office staff, industry, and childcare, to name a few. You get the gist…

We have several esteemed accreditations, including Qualsafe Awards (QA), First Aid Industry Body (FAIB). Safe Contractor approval, and we are proud to hold the Armed Forces covenant, which indicates that we have made an excellent commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community.

Our brilliant training team has not only been there, got the t-shirt, etc, but are, most importantly, passionate! Call us stubborn, but there are some things we won’t compromise on, that is, quality and high standards of training!

When choosing your training provider, it is vital to conduct due diligence. Too many have not done this and have just looked for the cheapest provider, only to pay the price later. Let’s be clear, there are many excellent training providers, but on the flip side…

Let us help you get it right, the first time. Look at our comprehensive list of regulated courses. Alternatively, contact us at info@amlskills.com or call 0151 257 5138.
